About Us

Here at Craftable, we create best-in-class technology for world-renowned bars and restaurants. We were founded back in 2015 in Silicon Valley by tech experts and hospitality industry veterans. Since then, we have brought the best to Texas for a warm southern twist! Our goal is to collaborate with restaurateurs, operators, and accountants to reduce labor costs, increase efficiency, and drive profit for our clients. Our platform is built to accommodate operators from independent restaurateurs to regional and national chains.

Overview

The Accounting Manager owns the day-to-day accounting operations at Craftable and runs the monthly close. Reporting to the Controller, you will be responsible for close and financial reporting, revenue and subscription billing accounting, accounts payable and payroll, and the internal controls that support both. You will also coordinate our external audit and multi-jurisdiction tax filings and lead a senior accountant.

Responsibilities

  • Close and financial reporting
    • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, delivering results within 8 business days of month-end.
    • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
    • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and explain results and variances to budget and forecast.
    • Maintain the close calendar and drive down month end close to a target of 5 business days.
  • Revenue and billing
    • Own subscription revenue accounting under ASC 606, including deferred revenue, contract modifications, and the revenue-to-billings reconciliation.
    • Partner with Accounts Receivable, Sales and Customer Success on contract review and non-standard terms.
  • Accounts payable, spend and payroll
    • Manage accounts payable, corporate card and expense reimbursement programs, and vendor onboarding.
    • Oversee payroll accounting, including reconciliation of payroll registers to the general ledger.
  • Tax, audit, and compliance
    • Coordinate with external accounting firms on the annual audit and on income and sales tax filings across federal, state and local jurisdictions.
    • Own the sales tax compliance calendar, including nexus monitoring and registrations.
    • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, and document them so they survive turnover.
  • Systems, automation and process improvement
    • Identify manual, error-prone steps in the accounting cycle and eliminate them - for example, automating recurring reconciliations, close checklists, and management reporting.
    • Use AI tooling to draft, test, and document these improvements, and help set sensible guardrails for how the accounting team uses it.
    • Work with the Controller and Engineering on our internal finance platform ("CraftyFi"), specifying and testing workflows that pull from our billing, spend, and CRM systems (Chargebee, Ramp and Hubspot).
    • Serve as the accounting team's system owner for NetSuite, including chart of accounts maintenance and process enhancements.
  • Leadership and business partnership
    • Manage, coach, and develop the senior accountant, setting priorities and reviewing their work.
    • Act as one of accounting's primary points of contact for the rest of the business and translate accounting constraints into terms non-finance partners can act on.
    • Provide analysis and recommendations to the Controller and senior management.
    • Escalate emerging risks and issues early, with proposed solutions and a recommended course of action.

Qualifications

  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management experience.
    • Demonstrated ownership of monthly close tasks.
    • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and financial statement preparation.
    • Experience in a cloud-based ERP and advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, large-volume data work).
    • Comfort with technology and a track record of improving a process rather than only operating it.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage competing deadlines across close, audit, and tax cycles.
  • Preferred
    • CPA certification.
    • SaaS or subscription-business experience, including hands-on ASC 606 application.
    • Multi-entity and multi-state sales tax compliance experience.
    • Public accounting background, or experience being audited from the company side.
    • ERP or finance-systems implementation experience.
    • Experience building automations or reporting with AI tools, SQL, or scripting.
    • Hospitality or restaurant industry exposure.
